When You Assume…
You know the adage right?
When you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME!
Today I just had a random thought as I looked at my snack of guacamole and string cheese. Anybody who did not know me and know that I am on this keto journey might see that and think, “Wow. She’s not doing herself any favors with so much weight to lose.” And, if I were in public, say at a picnic table in a park on a beautiful day enjoying my high fat lunch and someone walked by and saw me, they might get the urge to snap a pic and tweet it for their friends to laugh uproariously at. It’s the People of Walmart phenomenon – make fun of people without knowing anything about their circumstances.
Even before I started this journey, before I gave up Diet Coke (the fuel that fed me for so many years – even when I wasn’t overweight), I used to get so angry at people who made fun of anyone who ordered a Diet Coke along with something that is supposedly “fattening.” It was always followed by, “Well if you’re going to eat THAT, by all means watch your weight with a Diet Coke.” I was never a fan of regular Coke. I drank Diet Coke because I preferred it. Yeah, for a while I thought it wouldn’t pack on the pounds (boy was I wrong about that!), but I didn’t drink it solely to lose weight.
The next time you feel the urge to criticize someone’s food choices (or, worse, snap a pic and share it on social media as “funny”), resist. Walk away. Or, better yet, pay them a compliment (“Nice shoes!” or “I love that color on you!”) and move along. How about making their day with your seemingly random kind words rather than getting a few laughs from strangers for making fun of someone.
That’s all. That’s today’s random thought. Be nice. Don’t assume. Don’t judge.
P.S. I did a simple Google search for the featured image on this post. The one I chose makes me kinda sad. I would totally have this burger (just tossing the bun and condiments). It’s a near perfect keto meal!
